The Los Angeles Rams could be in discussion with veteran safety Jalen Ramsey for a potential trade this offseason. According to reports, head coach Sean McVay is interested in bringing back the All-Pro, one of the men responsible for building a championship roster to win the Super Bowl. Earlier this offseason, the Dolphins said they’re looking to explore trade options for the Pro Bowler, so it looks like they’re heading towards a divorce, as Miami general manager Chris Grier is in discussion with several teams. The Rams are no stranger to Ramsey, who was one of their best defensive secondary talent, making him the highest-paid defensive back in the league in 2023.
However, it wasn’t enough for the Rams to keep him since he didn’t fit the billing anymore. Originally selected in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Rams brought him back on a restructured deal. The team has plenty of young talent in their secondary and would benefit from a veteran presence like Ramsey to help Akhello Witherspoon and Darious Williams. However, his 2025 deal could complicate things for teams wanting to acquire him since all of his money is guaranteed.
Ramsey is still one of the best defensive talents in the league, and it’s hard to imagine he stays on the Dolphins since both are trying to move on. He won’t get a new contract, and the Rams won’t be the only team that will pursue him. The Chargers and Ravens could intervene in the trade talks to offer during the NFL Draft, that they can’t turn down.

Cashing out Los Angeles
Last season, the Los Angeles Chargers got farther into the 2024 campaign than anyone was anticipating. Despite that, they couldn’t get past the wild-card round, but it’s still a solid mark to begin head coach Jim Harbaugh’s tenure in Los Angeles. While they need a new wide receiver in the worst possible way, they could use another talent in their secondary. After losing Kristian Fulton in free agency and letting Asante Samuel Jr. hit the market, the Chargers should be looking for a capable upgrade.
Alohi Gilman and Derwin James Jr. should retain their starting roles, but they should look to upgrade the position anyway. After re-signing Elijah Molden, he could pair with Jalen Ramsey as the new emerging starters in this unit. This would be a great benefit for the Chargers’ defense, which will look dramatically different this upcoming 2025 season. Ramsey has championship experience and could push Harbaugh’s philosophy to the highest level.
Championship Roster in Baltimore?
Meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens have high hopes for undrafted talent Ar’Darius Washington for stepping into free agent Marcus Williams’ starting role. The team will still draft a safety during the draft, despite the change, since the Ravens want to add extra depth in their unit. However, even though Washington may start, they can’t let Kyle Hamilton’s talents go to waste.
He could get better if he had someone like Ramsey on the other end of the stick. Both of these talents in the aerial attack could be a problem for opposing offenses, which would heighten this defense to the fullest. The Ravens have one of the most dangerous offenses in the league, and it’s time to get some efficient talent to help guys like Marlon Humphrey and 2024 draft pick Nate Wiggins.
