ESPN Insider Rich Cimini believes there’s a chance that the New York Jets could trade former second-rounder running back Breece Hall. According to the source, the spotlight is on the running back as he’s entering the final year of his contract, but it might become difficult to retain him after this season. New head coach Aaron Glenn’s recent comments don’t sound very convincing for Hall’s future, as they plan to use the “three-back approach.” This means the Jets are not making it easy for Hall, who’s already been struggling in this unit, so he will have to fight for his starting job.
However, if the New York Jets don’t see a future with him, they could trade Hall before the season begins to at least get some draft capital in return. It shouldn’t be surprising if the team ends up trading him during the NFL Draft, as this will be a perfect time for the Jets to take advantage of rebuilding their offense after releasing Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams. The Breece Hall trade rumors would likely skyrocket if the team decides to draft Ashton Jeanty with the No. 7 pick, but that’s only if he’s available by then. Meanwhile, 2024 draft pick Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis will be getting the same touches as Hall, so this could be bad news going up against two other runners.
For Hall’s future, this doesn’t mean the end for him. After posting 1,585 yards from scrimmage in 2023 and replicating those numbers the following season, he’s still in good shape to be a worthy trade candidate for these three teams.
ESPN Insider “Fuels” Speculation Jets Could Trade Former Second Rounder Breece Hall – Chargers, Ravens and Saints Logical Fits
Najee Harris’ Help
Last season, there were some promising strides in the Los Angeles Chargers’ ground game, but health did remain a concern. The team knew what they were getting into with J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards, as none of them were able to stay healthy for the entire 2024 campaign. However, head coach Jim Harbaugh is testing the waters and signing Najee Harris to see how he fits into their philosophy this upcoming season. Nobody loves running the football more than Harbaugh, and it wouldn’t be surprising if the team trades for a running back during the draft.
Hall hasn’t been the most explosive runner in the league, but he probably needs a reset. He won’t be putting over 1,000 yards with the Chargers, but he wouldn’t need to. Harris could carry most of the load, while they use Hall in situational moments. Meanwhile, Harris is more of a hard-nosed runner, and Hall is like a speedster, so these potential tandems could fair well in Los Angeles.
Other Fits
For the Ravens, they have high expectations for backup Keaton Mitchell, but he hasn’t been able to back that up. Derrick Henry is one of the most dangerous running backs in the league, so it’s not like Hall will take his job. They just need a capable runner to produce some yardage and make plays to make life easier for Henry in the backfield.
The same can be said about Alvin Kamara in New Orleans. The Saints could use another speedster since Jamaal Williams was a disappointment, leading to his release. Kendre Miller needs another season to adjust, so trading for all just in that last rookie deal could be what the Saints need to give them a boost.
