New England Patriots 2024 draft pick quarterback Joe Milton may be used as a trade bait this upcoming offseason. According to a Bleacher Report, the Patriots will likely be open to trading Milton and he may be worth a third-round pick in return. While he’s still young, he probably won’t have the opportunity to play for the Patriots since they have they’re building their future under quarterback Drake Maye. The Patriots could keep Milton on the roster but they wouldn’t want to let his momentum go to waste so it might be better for Milton to join a roster that grants him a chance to build upon the 2024 regular-season finale.
Milton may not be on the trade block or ever land there, but if the Patriots receive a few phone calls, they could use his talents as leverage to negotiate a deal. Originally selected as a sixth-round draft pick, the Michigan and Tenessee product has the arm talent and versatility to lead a professional team after an impressive debut against the Buffalo Bills, recording 241 yards and two touchdowns. Even though the Patriots were out of playoff contention, it was enough for several teams to lay eyeballs on him this upcoming offseason and may consider bringing him via a trade. Two teams like the Ravens, Rams could be ready for him to appear in their offensive scheme and see what he could.

Building Experience in Baltimore?
The Baltimore Ravens could be doing Milton a favor if they were to trade for him. Meanwhile, the Ravens have one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Lamar Jackson, so no one should expect to take his job. However, they do need a backup and a guy like Josh Johnson isn’t capable of bringing at least a couple of wins or being competitive. Milton may look like he’s the guy that most teams want, but it was just one game for him, so it might be best to develop in Baltimore.
The Ravens could sacrifice their salary cap since Milton is still on a rookie contract so it wouldn’t be too much. It would be a win-win situation for both parties considering Milton will be a part of one of the best offenses and develop his arm strength by learning from Jackson. On the other end, the Ravens will finally have reliable help in their quarterback department.
Life After Matthew Stafford
After the upsetting close loss against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Divisional round, Matthew Stafford was reportedly teasing his retirement from the NFL. However, the Rams did come back from their 1-4 start, but the team was considering trading Stafford. While Jimmy Garoppolo will become a free agent, it might be safe for the Rams to trade for Milton. Stafford probably only has two years left in him, so they might need to start developing the next quarterback.
Trading for Milton could spare the organization the headache of finding a capable signal-caller in this year’s draft. Milton won’t start this season, but he has that door open to learn from Stafford before he hangs up the cleats.
