Former Commanders pass rusher Chase Young could find a new team in a trade this season, and the Ravens and Panthers are probably the best fits. According to a report, Bleacher Report has Young on their recent trade board since the Saints are likely tanking this year, especially coming off a blowout loss against Denver. New Orleans could be rebuilding despite having a promising 2-0 start but the campaign has been derailing with injuries. They barely survive with a thin roster even after signing Marquez Valdes-Scantling to help new starting rookie Spencer Rattler.
However, trading Young will likely just be relieving for draft capital rather than salary cap. Originally selected in the 2020 NFL Draft, the defensive rookie of the year was off to a promising career before injuries hindered his performance. The Commanders traded Young to the 49ers midway through last season’s campaign since he wasn’t able to fulfill a long-term promise in Washington. However, he had a new chance with the Saints but it’s been average at best after just tallying 1.5 sacks and 13 quarterback pressures.
To no fault of his, Young is better off heading to a roster for either a championship run or a fresh start. He may not be the same pass rusher in the league anymore but he’s still young and could return to the promising rookie he once was in Washington. Young may still be a capable disruptor to getting after the quarterback and a trade to the Ravens or Panthers may be suitable.

A New Superbowl Run?
One source believes Baltimore is exploring the idea of trading for a pass rusher. The Ravens still perform at a high level defensively after recording 60 sacks last season but the team is still that same roster this campaign. However, the losses of Jadeveon Clowney and Patrick Queen have been revealed since David Ojabo and Odafe Oweh took over. They’re going through some growing pains to adjust to a full-time role so no one expected them to be on the same elite level as a veteran.
Baltimore brought in Yannick Ngakoue back for another run so it’s obvious they’ll still look to add more talent. Since the Ravens were compelled to sign him back, they may start exploring for a cheap trade before this year’s deadline. The team could easily bring in Young to help give Oweh and Ojabo some balance opposite of Roquan Smith. Young doesn’t need to be in a full-time role but he could produce better numbers behind one of the best defenses in the league.
A Fresh Start
The Panther’s roster for this 2024 campaign is probably one of the worst even after a disastrous season last year. After losing Derrick Brown and Shaq Thompson, the defense continues to take blows just like the performances they’ve been putting up. However, Carolina isn’t a sinking ship just on defense but after bringing back Bryce Young in the starting role, he’s most likely campaigning a possible trade for the upcoming game. The Panthers will probably trade him and it might take a few trial-and-error seasons before this team is on a playoff roster again.
This doesn’t mean Carolina can’t start their building blocks this season. Jadeveon Clowney might be going off with a new team since rumors are spiraling that a trade could be imminent. Young could be a nice consolidation prize for the next couple of years to establish as a reliable starting pass rusher. Even though they have one of the worst defensive units, the Panthers could bring him in to be a diamond in the rough and give them some breathing room for the 2025 NFL Draft.
