Veteran edge defender Tyus Bowser is signing with the Seattle Seahawks.
After striking out on trying to lure veteran defensive end Brent Urban to the Pacific Northwest in free agency, Seattle Seahawks’ first-year head coach Mike Macdonald is reuniting with a different former player. According to reports, free agent outside linebacker Tyus Bowser is signing to the Seahawks’ practice squad.

Macdonald was Bowser’s defensive coordinator for his final two years with the Ravens, although he didn’t play the entire 2023 season. After missing the first eight games of the 2022 season while recovering from a torn Achilles, Bowser returned for the final nine games of Macdonald’s first year at the helm of Baltimore’s defense, made four starts and recorded three sacks, seven quarterback hits and four tackles for loss including postseason play.
Originally drafted in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Houston, Bowser was among the NFL’s most versatile linebackers when healthy. He made plays both off the edge and in coverage. In 2021, Bowser led the Ravens in sacks with seven.
The Ravens released the 29-year-old back in March to free up $5.5 million in salary cap space before the new league year began. He now joins a Seahawks’ pass rush that will be without seven-year veteran leader Uchenna Nwosu to start the season, who suffered a sprained MCL in the team’s preseason finale.
Since Bowser wasn’t on any team’s roster during training camp or the preseason, signing to the practice squad will allow him time to get back into football shape.
