The Historical Society of Carroll County will host the discussion, The Gettysburg Campaign in Carroll County presented by Kyle Wichtendahl at Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster, March 18.
Kyle will recount the experiences of civilians and soldiers as Confederate and Union armies invaded and occupied Carroll County during the weeks surrounding the Gettysburg battle, according to HSCC.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch, while desserts and drinks will be provided, according to HSCC. There is no registration to attend, however the cost is $3 for HSCC members and $7 for nonmembers.
The event will take place at Grace Lutheran Church at 21 Carroll Street in Westminster, March 18 from 12-1 p.m.

The City of Westminster seeks water superintendent
The City of Westminster is looking for a water superintendent for the Water Treatment Plant.
The water superintendent will be responsible for overseeing and supervising the daily operations and aspects for water treatment, including all treatment plants and well systems, according to the City of Westminster. This position is charged with providing potable water for public consumption in sufficient quantities for firefighting and coordinates with others the improvement, maintenance and expansion of the system.
Applicants must have a minimum of a high school diploma with preference given to higher education in fields of chemistry, engineering and seven years of progressively complex experience in the water treatment field or equivalent combination of education, training and related experience, according to the City of Westminster. Salary for this full-time, 40-hour Grade 117 is $73,639.85 – $118,169.84 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include dental, health, life insurance, a pension plan and vision.

Bon Secours to host caregivers’ retreat
The Sisters of Bon Secours will host a caregiver’s retreat at Bon Secours Retreat and Conference Center in Marriottsville, March 1.
Attendees will spend time being reaffirmed as a caregiver for someone with a long-term illness or condition, including (but not limited to) dementia, according to the Sisters of Bon Secours. This retreat utilizes a lens for understanding the spiritual or meaningful dimensions of the caregiver role and experience and is tailored to uplift participants who may or may not provide hands-on care for their loved one, but who are involved in their lives.
Topics that will be explored include burnout, compassion, family dynamics, the necessity of self-care and the often-conflicting emotions that accompany the caregiver journey, according to the Sisters of Bon Secours. Throughout the program, participants will be invited to engage in meditation or prayer, storytelling, writing and other exercises that validate the caregiver’s experience and provide therapeutic tools for the ongoing commitment of caregiving.
The retreat will take place at Bon Secours Retreat and Conference Center at 1525 Marriottsville Road in Marriottsville, March 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Historical Society of Carroll County will host the Carroll Voices 250 Community Forum at Carroll County Public Library Eldersburg Branch, March 12.
The Carroll Voices 250 Advisory Committee will be providing updates on its progress and offering input on activities and initiatives celebrating the country’s 250th birthday, according to HSCC.
The forum will take place at the Carroll County Public Library Eldersburg Branch at 6400 W. Hemlock Drive, March 12 from 2-3:30 p.m.

The Historical Society hosts History: Shaken and Stirred – Untold Stories of McDaniel College
The Historical Society of Carroll County will host the event, History: Shaken and Stirred – Untold Stories of McDaniel College at Covalent Spirits LLC in Westminster, April 3.
The event will feature five speakers telling three five-minute, untold, local history stories with the crowd in a relaxed setting, according to HSCC. This quarter, a special history-themed drink will be developed by owners Jenn and Drew.
There is no RSVP or reservation required.
