Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is mourning for the folks of the Baltimore community following Tuesday’s Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.
According to The Baltimore Sun, the bridge fell early this morning after a support column was struck by a container ship that had lost power. At least seven cars were reportedly sent into the Patapsco River and a state of emergency was declared by Gov. Wes Moore.
Taking to Twitter, Baltimore’s two-time MVP had a message for the people of his city affected by the tragic events.
“For the people and their families that was apart of the collapsing Bridge in Baltimore my heart, thoughts and prayers are with you all…” Jackson said.
Search and rescue operations have since begun as authorities and responders look for the vehicles and people who are still unaccounted for.
Per Gov. Moore, the bridge was up to code and there were no known structural issues prior to its collapse. Adding that there is no evidence that the bridge collision was any sort of terrorist attack.
Thankfully the ship’s crew was able to notify authorities of the loss of power before hitting the bridge which allowed the state’s transportation police to reroute traffic and keep other vehicles from driving onto it.
President Joe Biden has also reportedly been briefed on the Key Bridge collapse and the ongoing search and rescue efforts. A White House official said their “hearts go out to the families of those who remain missing as a result of the horrific incident.”
