Since he entered the NFL five years ago, Lamar Jackson has eschewed having an agent.
That unusual approach has not prevented Jackson from having success on the field, but it might have hurt his wallet, and not just in regards to his contracts with the Baltimore Ravens.
During a recent conversation on NBC Sports Radio, Mike Florio and Chris Simms hinted that Jackson missed out on some marketing opportunities because of his lack of formal representation.
Specifically, Florio made reference to “the shoe contract that wasn’t, because he doesn’t have a marketing firm.”
It doesn’t look like Jackson thinks the public should put much stock into what Florio and Simms have been saying.
He responded to them on Twitter tonight, using a GIF of a bewildered LeBron James to express his feelings on the rumors.
One thing is for certain: Jackson doesn’t have a contract to play football in 2023 and beyond. The Ravens have said they are committed to the former MVP, and at the very least, are expected to use the franchise tag on him before next Tuesday’s deadline.
However, even if they do that, there’s a chance Baltimore will opt to trade Jackson if it becomes apparent that a long-term deal is not in the cards, or if another team approaches them with a trade offer that can’t be refused.
