Patrick Mahomes won’t be winning back-to-back MVPs this season. On Wednesday, he named who should win this year’s award.
Unsurprisingly, Mahomes believes Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is the MVP of the league.
“He’s going to be the MVP for a reason,” Mahomes said of Jackson, via NFL.com. “He goes out there, he leads his team, he scores, he runs, he throws. He does whatever it takes to win, and that’s what the greats do.”
If Jackson wins another MVP this season, that’ll tie him with Mahomes in that category.
Mahomes on Lamar Jackson and competing against him
“I know it is challenging the way he’s able to just be a competitor and score the football obviously- We’ve been able to play a couple games on a few years now, but I’ve admired watching him from afar.”

There’s no question the feeling is mutual considering Jackson praised Mahomes during his own press conference on Wednesday.
“I don’t like competing against him at all,” Jackson told reporters. “He’s a great quarterback. Definite Hall of Famer. That’s a no-brainer. He’s definitely a Hall of Famer. I believe it’s just two greats, two up-and-coming greats going toe to toe like a heavyweight fight. That’s what I see.”
Mahomes and Jackson will square off this Sunday in the AFC Championship Game. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on CBS.
