The Baltimore Ravens won’t have to worry about Pro Bowl defensive tackle Justin Madubuike’s contract situation anymore.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Ravens have signed Madubuike to a four-year, $98 million deal. This contract includes $75.5 million in guaranteed money and $53.5 million at signing.
Earlier this week, Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta said he wanted to keep Madubuike around for years to come.
“We were unable to agree on a contract extension with Justin before the deadline and will use the franchise tag,” DeCosta said. “Justin is a great player and person, and we will continue to negotiate a long-term deal with him.”
Clearly, DeCosta wasn’t bluffing
After the deal was announced, DeCosta had this to say about Madubuike: “Justin is one of the best defensive tackles in the entire NFL and a cornerstone on our defense.”
With Madubuike under contract for the next four seasons, Baltimore has to feel good about the interior of its defensive line.
Madubuike led all defensive tackles this past season with 13 sacks, earning him a spot on the second-team All-Pro. He also had 56 combined tackles, 33 QB hits, 12 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.
The future is bright for Madubuike, that’s for sure.
