After taking a year off from playing in the NFL, defensive back Tony Jefferson is ready to lace up his cleats once again.
Jordan Schultz was first to report that Jefferson is coming out of retirement. His plan is o suit up for an NFL team this upcoming season.
“Jefferson has stayed in shape, has been training, and wants to play again,” Schultz wrote. “He intends to start talking to teams in the near future after spending last season with Baltimore as a scouting intern.”
Jefferson started his NFL career in 2013 with the Arizona Cardinals. It wasn’t until 2017 when he signed a four-year, $34 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
In 39 career games with the Ravens, Jefferson had 174 tackles, 12 passes defended, 4.5 sacks, two interceptions and tow forced fumbles.
Jefferson spent time with the San Francisco 49ers and New York Giants before retiring in May of 2023.
Overall, Jefferson has 492 career tackles, 24 pass break-ups, 9.5 sacks and four interceptions.
It’s unclear what the market will be like for Jefferson, who hasn’t played a single snap since the 2022 season.
Jefferson, 32, will try to find a landing spot before training camp begins in late July.
