Star pass rusher Micah Parsons wants an extension but a trade seems more likely this upcoming offseason. According to ESPN, the linebacker is looking for at least a contract extension before NFL Training Camp begins. However, that may not happen being that the Dallas Cowboys have been reluctant these past few years and even in history to give their star playmakers the deal they deserve. This was evident in the past few seasons that Owner Jerry Jones has waited until the very last minute to extend stars CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.
It might become the same scenario for Parsons who’s already in several trade rumors at the end of the 2024 campaign, so the team may want to act fast before patience wears thin. Originally selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, the former first-rounder has become a keystone in Dallas’ defensive front of getting after the quarterback in the pass rush. It’s a player the Cowboys can’t afford to lose as Parsons expresses his desire to stay with the Cowboys, but anything can happen in the league this offseason. If Lamb skipped the offseason program and mandatory camp to get his deal, this might be the route that Parsons has to take to stay with Dallas.
The history doesn’t look good with the Cowboys so they could very well entertain a trade as well before considering an extension. Parsons’ attendance in camp has been spotty so there should be no surprise if he sits out for all workouts during training camp if Jerry doesn’t give him the deal. If Parsons is a trade candidate, the Chargers, Ravens could be possible suitors.

New Lightning Bolt?
The Los Angeles Chargers didn’t complete their dream of a Super Bowl under first-year head coach Jim Harbaugh just yet. With the salary cap working against their favor this past offseason, the Chargers have the leverage to make several moves to improve the team. While they want to establish a solid passing game for quarterback Justin Herbert, it can’t happen without a powerful. Following their loss against the Texans, linebacker Khalil Mack is contemplating retirement and Joey Bosa is an impending free agent.
This would leave a depleting hole for the linebacker position so the team would need to act big of who will be their next hard-nosed tackle man. Nobody in this league loves winning in the trenches more than Jim Harbaugh so Parsons is the perfect athlete to fill that role. While they could look for immediate depth, they could try to trade for Parsons if he becomes available.
More Defensive Help
No one is stopping the Baltimore Ravens offense anytime soon. Quarterback Lamar Jackson and bulldozer Derrick Henry are one of the elite duos in the AFC that has kept the Ravens in each competition. However, while the pass-rushing unit has been decent, the secondary has been torn apart each week as the season progresses. The Ravens might want to focus on getting a superstar secondary piece, but they may be able to pull away their miscue of trading for Parsons.
Micah Parsons is no expert in the secondary as he’s only reliable in the blitz. Perhaps, the Ravens could continue getting more aggressive to avoid the quarterback getting the ball out clean in the aerial attack. Despite that, Baltimore is getting younger with pieces like Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo. What this pass rush struggles is balance and Parsons could be the man to fix that issue alongside Roquan Smith and Kyle Van Noy.
