The Ravens added numerous new coaches in 2025. Which do you believe was the best?
The Baltimore Ravens’ coaching staff underwent changes this offseason — though thankfully they didn’t lose their coordinators — and many appear to be significant impact coaches.
Ravens Coaching Hires
- Senior secondary coach Chuck Pagano
- Defensive Backs coach Donald D’Alesio
- Assistant Special Teams coach Anthony Levine Sr.
- Assistant Linebackers coach Matt Pees
- Assistant Strength & Conditioning coach Kevin Hartman
- Inside Linebackers coach Tyler Santucci
Today’s Question of the Day is:
What was the Ravens’ best coaching hire this year?
My answer: There’s some quality hires here, no doubt. I’m a big fan of landing Levine to improve a special teams unit that need to be in the top five annually. I also approve of getting Pagano and D’Alesio to impact a secondary that needs greater improvement, especially after the sudden and striking decline of safety Marcus Williams.
But the strongest hire to me is the addition of Santucci.
Santucci, 36, left the college scene after being a linebackers coach for seven different colleges. Reportedly, many different Power Five programs were pursuing Santucci, but he was nabbed up by the Ravens.
Last season, the Ravens’ linebacker unit took a step backward. Though Roquan Smith received First Team All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors, it certainly did not feel as though he performed to expectation. He received a 66.8 overall grade from PFF, ranking him No. 37 in the NFL; he did not break a 70+ grade in any area other than tackling. Second-year linebacker Trenton Simpson, who was expected to take the mantle after the departure of Patrick Queen, struggled to make an impact and saw his snaps ceded to veterans Chris Board and Malik Harrison.
The Ravens parted ways with Mark DeLeone after the season, assuredly due to the performance regression from his unit.
Santucci appears to be a coach who can help regain form for Smith and draw out the potential from Simpson, a player with all the makings of a three-down linebacker with his high-upside attributes.
