One of the biggest surprises in last night’s draft was the Baltimore Ravens’ decision to trade away their No. 1 wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown.
But, according to Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta, this trade has been brewing for quite some time now.
DeCosta told reporters that Brown requested a trade away from the Ravens organization sometime last year, per Cardinals insider Bob McManaman.

The Cardinals sent their first-round pick to Baltimore in exchange for the talented young receiver and the No. 100 overall pick in this year’s draft. Brown is now reunited with his former Heisman winning quarterback Kyler Murray, rekindling their days as star teammates with the Oklahoma Sooners.
While the Ravens front office was aware of this trade request, it appears superstar quarterback Lamar Jackson was kept in the dark. After the trade went down, the former league MVP took to Twitter with a simple message: “Wtf.”

According to reports from Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, DeCosta and the Cardinals agreed to make a trade for Brown earlier this week. DeCosta said he and head coach John Harbaugh spoke with Jackson about the trade before it was made.

Brown, one of the quickest deep-ball threats in the league, logged his first 1,000+ yard season in 2021. He also chipped in six touchdowns.
