It’s no secret the Washington Commanders have needed linebacker help for years. Washington attempted to fill that void by selecting Jamin Davis in the first round of the 2021 NFL draft.
Through three NFL seasons, Davis has yet to live up to his first-round status. He hasn’t been bad, but Washington selected him to be the Mike linebacker. That didn’t work out, and the Commanders quickly moved him outside.
Davis has shown signs of progress, but not enough for Washington to pick up his fifth-year option. The hope is a new coaching staff can help unlock Davis’ potential.
New head coach Dan Quinn, defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. and linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. will not de-emphasize the position like the former staff. In addition to getting the most out of Davis, the Commanders will add other linebackers, too.
Perhaps Washington will add a ‘backer on day two of the 2024 NFL draft. With the 2024 NFL combine this week, we look at five linebackers to keep an eye on throughout the week.
