Injury updates
The Washington Commanders are on a five-game winning streak, and they’re on the road this week for a Wild Card Weekend rematch against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Commanders lost their Week 1 game against the Bucs, and will be looking to even that score, and advance to the divisional round of the playoffs.
Washington was inside the practice bubble today due to the snow and they held a walk-thru. They gave veteran rest days to Zach Ertz, Clelin Ferrell, Dante Fowler Jr, and Terry McLaurin. Only Ferrell(knee) was also listed with an injury. McLaurin had been listed with an ankle injury for the last two weeks.
Five players were listed as limited in an estimation from today’s walk-thru. Jeremy Chinn(rib) and Brandon Coleman(knee) were both injured during the win over the Cowboys, and they both returned to the game. Jamison Crowder is also listed with a hamstring injury. Center Tyler Biadasz(ankle) and OT Cornelius Lucas(groin) both missed last week’s game and were limited in practice.
Marshon Lattimore was listed as a full participant today, and head coach Dan Quinn said again today that he has been hitting all the markers needed to return to the field. The Commanders traded for him at the trade deadline(November 5th), and he has only played in 2 of the 8 games played since then. Lattimore has played against the Buccaneers plenty of times during his time with the New Orleans Saints, and has a long history facing off against Bucs WR Mike Evans.
Jayden Daniels was pulled from Sunday’s game against the Cowboys at halftime, which allowed backup Marcus Mariota to shine, and get a come from behind victory of his own. Dan Quinn said it was due to leg soreness, and he’s listed on today’s injury report with a quad injury. He was a “full” participant, and he said if the game was a win and in type of situation, they would have had to drag him off the field. We’ll have to wait to see how the next two practices go, but Daniels is expected to start against the Buccaneers for his first playoff game on Sunday night.
Rookie UDFA TE Colson Yankoff has his 21-day practice window opened today, and he was listed as a full participant. He’s been on injured reserve since November 9th for a hamstring injury, and he could be activated for Sunday’s game.
