Injury updates
The Washington were back in the practice bubble today, as they prepare to visit the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday for the NFC Championship game. They have only ruled one player out, with three other players listed as questionable. Sam Cosmi tore his ACL against the Detroit Lions and will likely be placed on injured reserve tomorrow. This will open up a roster spot and allow Washington to add a player, and they have two offensive linemen on the practice squad if they want to bolster their depth. The Commanders will also likely elevate two players for Sunday’s game.
Daron Payne suffered a thumb dislocation vs the Buccaneers, but was able to play vs the Lions on Sunday. He was listed with a new knee injury this week, and he hasn’t practiced all week. If Payne is inactive, Carl Davis Jr is on the practice squad, and was elevated for three games during the season.
Rookie DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste is dealing with a shoulder injury, and he’s been limited all week. He has been getting limited snaps on defense, but he had his most highest snap count since Week 6 during Washington’s big win over the Lions on Saturday. If he’s not playing, this could lead to more playing time for the underrated Jalyn Holmes, and possibly another elevation for Andre Jones Jr. who was elevated, but inactive last week.
Third-string QB Jeff Driskel has missed the last two practices due to an illness. He has been the team’s emergency QB for the majority of the season. If Driskel isn’t active on Sunday, UDFA rookie QB Sam Hartman could be elevated from the practice squad.
Marshon Lattimore was added to the injury report due to a vet rest day as the team continues to manage the hamstring injury he had been dealing with since before the team traded for him in early November. He looked healthier the last two weeks, and is expected to continue to keep Benjamin St-Juste on the bench.
Five players were limited during the last full practice of the week, but they don’t have an injury designation for Sunday’s game. John Bates, Ben Sinnott, and Frankie Luvu are all dealing with shoulder injuries and were limited the last two days after a “full” practice during Wednesday’s walkthrough practice. Clelin Ferrell has been dealing with a knee injury since training camp, and was also limited.
Bobby Wagner reportedly suffered a high-ankle sprain vs the Bucs, and barely practiced last week. He played 100% of the snaps vs the Lions, and has been on the same practice schedule this week. Expect Wagner to play, and he will probably be on the field for most, if not all, of the team’s defensive snaps.
