Injury updates
The Washington Commanders are prepating for their Week 2 matchup against the New York Giants with a few players dealing with injuries. Emmanuel Forbes Jr injured his thumb after the Week 1 loss to the Buccaneers. He was a full participant in yesterday’s practice, but he was limited today. Ian Rapport reported that Forbes is having surgery tomorrow for a torn UCL in his thumb. Dan Quinn had said Forbes would play with a splint on Sunday, but he is now likely out for at least this game. The teM didn’t place him on injured reserve, and will make a decision after surgery.
Johnny Newton had a rest day yesterday, but Dan Quinn said he could be ready to make his NFL debut this weekend. He had surgery on one foot for a Jones fracture after his college career ended, and then discovered he needed the same surgery on the other foot after he was drafted. He was dealing with a soft-tissue issue in one of his feet that limited him in training camp.
Tight End Zach Ertz was back to full participation after and a veteran rest day yesterday. Rookie safety Tyler Owens was limited in practice with an ankle injury on Wednesda, but was a full participant today. Rookie LT Brandon Coleman(shoulder), OT Trent Scott(knee), and RB Brian Robinson Jr(knee) were all full again today.
