Jayden Daniels speaks to the media after Friday’s practice
Jayden Daniels spoke to reporters after today’s practice on the third day of Washington Commanders training camp. He was asked about not being named the starter yet, and said he wants to compete for the position. He’s a competitor, and he knows that you need to be constantly improving to have success in the NFL. You can’t be content and comfortable, thinking the job is secured.
Daniels said the players are picking up where they left off from spring practices. They guys “were in their books’”, and the coaching staff has been doing a great job installing the new scheme. Daniels talked about the mental aspect of football during a long season with a lot of pressure on the signal caller. He’s ok with mistakes in practice, because you learn from them, and improve your game. Daniels is a mobile QB, and he knows he needs to avoid unnecessary hits, especially at the next level. He said it’s a process to learn when to throw it away, when to take a shot, and where your hot answers are.

“I like competing; I’m a competitor,” Daniels said. “Regardless of if I was announced the starter or not, you still gotta compete. You still can’t be content with your job, be comfortable and think it’s just your job and seal the deal. You gotta compete.”
“That’s just me. I’m never gonna put myself out there in the spotlight to think I’m bigger than anybody, better than anybody,” Daniels said. “Everybody’s equal on the field. You gotta go out there and compete each and every day.”

Picking up where they left off from spring practices:
Daniels on if they picked up right where they left off in the spring: “100%, guys were in their books.” Said coaches have done a great job, mentioning it’s ok to fail on the practice field. That’s what practices/walkthroughs are for.

Mental aspect of the game:
Jayden Daniels is obviously so physically gifted.
But, how does he work on the mental aspect of his game on and off the field?
Jayden said, “it’s a long taxing season and if you don’t take care of your mental it can be a rough season for you.”

Learning from mistakes:
Training Camp is always a progression.
Shells, pads, joint practices and preseason games.
Jayden Daniels is looking forward to those situations.

Dorrance Armstrong
The Washington Commanders will look to Dorance Armstrong to help with the pass rush.
Dorance joins Washington after spending the last 6 years with the Cowboys.
I asked him if the Commanders have some “dogs” on the D-Line.
Great response from Dorance pic.twitter.com/4xBJ5ASdBz
