Nothing makes sports fans feel smarter than watching Jeopardy! contestants struggle with a sports category.
In Wednesday night’s episode, the $800 clue for “Multi-sport athletes” ran through the highlights of a former Heisman Trophy winner who ran for 221 yards in a single game for the Raiders and made MLB’s All-Star Game for an American League squad.
Some readers, and those who watched the game show, are shouting “Bo Jackson” at their screen right now. However, none of the three contestants even ventured to guess.

Jackson won the Heisman in 1985 with 1,786 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns before getting drafted first overall by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Not wanting to play for Tampa Bay, he instead laced up his cleats for the Kansas City Royals in 1986.
On November 30, 1987, the NFL rookie gashed the Seattle Seahawks for 221 rushing yards and three total touchdowns. Two years later, he represented Kansas City in the All-Star Game before finishing the season with 32 home runs, 26 stolen bases, and an .805 OPS.
It’s impossible to study everything before appearing on Jeopardy! While gambler James Holzhauer brought sports knowledge to the long-running show during his 32-game winning streak, the category is often a blind spot for otherwise brilliant players.
Perhaps these three just don’t know Bo.
