The only quarterback taken in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft was Kenny Pickett from Pitt. He was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 20th pick.
Less than 24 hours later, Pickett revealed what jersey number he’ll wear for his rookie season in Pittsburgh.
Pickett has decided to stick with No. 8 as he enters the pro. That was his number throughout his college football career.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin detailed what he likes about Pickett during Thursday’s press conference.
“We talked about his high floor, and the high floor was because of the intangibles but also the anticipation and the pro accuracy were very obvious and consistent when studying his tape,” said Tomlin. “It was a good thing for him to come back and go back to school and gain another year of college experience. He is 24 years old. He is a mature young man. You do see maturity in his game, and I think all of those things are going to put him into position to compete.”
Although the Steelers signed veteran quarterback Mitchell Trubisky earlier this offseason, Tomlin made it known that Pickett will have the chance to compete for the starting job.
“He’ll be given an opportunity to compete, certainly,” Tomlin said, via the Steelers’ official site.
The Steelers are hopeful Pickett will be a worthy successor to Ben Roethlisberger.
