The Jacksonville Jaguars held the No. 1 overall pick for the second consecutive year heading into the 2022 NFL draft.
Unlike last year when Trevor Lawrence was the obvious pick, there was no consensus No. 1 player in this year’s draft. Former Michigan star Aidan Hutchinson was the favorite early on, but that faded as the draft drew near.
Former Georgia standout Travon Walker lit up the NFL combine and emerged as a legitimate threat to go No. 1. Well, just a month later, the Jaguars announced Walker as the No. 1 pick.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr didn’t take the news very well, apparently.
“LOL!! Mel Kiper’s head is about to explode cause the Jaguars didn’t pick his guy from Michigan. It’s hilarious. Jaguars made the smart move and went with the SEC,” one fan said.

“What are people gonna do when Jalen Carter is #1 overall next year? Mel Kiper will be talking about Aidan Hutchinson that’s for sure,” another fan joked.

Kiper had Hutchinson as the No. 1 player on his board, but obviously the Jaguars felt otherwise.
Hutchinson ended up going No. 2 to the Detroit Lions.
