It’s over Danny
The New York Giants disastrous season continues, and they’re on to next year already. They are 2-8 after losing in overtime to the Carolina Panthers, and now they’ve benched QB Daniel Jones. That was likely Jones’ last game playing for the Giants as they look to protect themselves from injury guarantees, before they move on next year.
The Giants aren’t turning to Drew Lock. who signed a 1-year, $5 million deal to be the backup. Third-string hero Tommy DeVito will get the start as New York continues their tank to the top of next year’s draft. DeVito started six games for the Giants last season, including a 31-19 win over the Washington Commanders that helped them get the No. 2 overall pick. DeVito was 3-3 as a starter, and now gets to put some highlights out there with rookie WR Malik Nabers.
Primary reason to play DeVito beyond trying to lose: popularity with fans. He wouldn’t be on roster otherwise IMO.
Which is fitting because remember why the owner lamented losing Barkley? It was because, in his words, Barkley was by far the most POPULAR player they had. https://t.co/m7QDbLkGn7

Part of the reason Drew Lock isn’t the #Giants QB for the next 7 weeks… pic.twitter.com/qmZaYcsNLE
