On Friday night, the New England Patriots made their second trade with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2022 NFL draft.
During Round 1, the Patriots traded back from No. 21 to No. 29, amassing picks along the way. Tonight, the Chiefs returned the favor by dropping back from No. 50 to No. 54.
With the No. 50 pick in hand, the Patriots wasted little time adding to their wide receiver room. New England drafted former Baylor speedster Tyquan Thornton with their second-round selection.
Not everyone loved the pick.
“I thought Tyquan Thornton was a Day 3 pick who was only that high based on speed,” ESPN’s Matt Miller said. “I really hope I’m wrong…but the Patriots’ draft value has been way, way off.”

In the first round, the Patriots “reached” while selecting offensive lineman Cole Strange. Some mocks had Strange lasting until the late third round, but Bill Belichick and company clearly saw something they liked.
Did the Patriots get it right?
