The Washington Commanders (10-5) host the Atlanta Falcons (8-7) in Week 17 action from Northwest Stadium. The Commanders look to clinch their first playoff berth since 2020. Commanders vs. Falcons prediction, pick:
Bryan Manning:
After dominating the Saints two weeks ago before holding on to win, Washington needed a strong performance against the Eagles last week. Despite turning the ball over five times, the Commanders, led by rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels overcame everything to end Philadelphia’s 10-game winning streak. Unfortunately, that game was costly, as the Commanders saw multiple players leave with injuries. However, for Sunday’s game against the Falcons, Washington has Daniels and a returning Jonathan Allen to boost the defense. Northwest Stadium will be rocking and the Commanders want to send fans home happy, and that’s what will happen.
Pick: Commanders 27, Falcons 20
Ivan Lambert:
The Commanders largest obstacle Sunday against the Falcons may actually be themselves. They have ruled out five players for Sunday, but the greater obstacle may be, have they regained their focus following their come-from-behind 36-33 win over the Eagles last week.
Another large obstacle could be Falcons receiver Drake London. Marshon Lattimore is out and that means Benjamin St- Luste receive more snaps. It is no secret teams have really targeted St-Juste this season and the Falcons will be no exception.
The Commanders running game has really struggled the last two outings against the Saints and Eagles. It would be great if the Commanders can get that running game going again, which means less of Jayden Daniels being the target as he is passing in long 3rd downs.
The Commanders have been better than the Falcons in 2024, but they are coming off an emotional, last-second win last week. So look for this to be more of a struggle than normally anticipated.
Pick: Commanders 24, Falcons 20
Serena Burks:
The Commanders have no reason to fear the Falcons. They beat the Giants 34-7, but that’s not saying much. The Commanders are in a far better position to make the playoffs and have more talented skill players to get the job done. Michael Penix Jr. has provided a confidence boost to the Falcons, but a Sunday night primetime matchup is a lot of pressure. If the Commanders win, their goal of making the playoffs in 2024 is essentially set. Their biggest obstacle this week is Bijan Robinson, who is definitely going to cause problems. I just don’t think it will be enough to overtake the game. Commanders get the win at home
Pick: Commanders 28, Falcons 21
