With Bruce Arians shocking the NFL world with a retirement, many are wondering if his decision was influenced by the return of Tom Brady.
The short answer: Yes.
The long answer: Yes, but probably not how you think.
There’s been speculation that Brady, a seven-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback, did not get along with Arians. Some suggested that Brady retired following the 2021 season because he wanted to force his way out of Tampa Bay and play elsewhere.
However, Brady has committed to another season in Tampa Bay. And Arians told reporters on Wednesday night that he feels good about his decision to step away because of Brady’s return. Arians wanted to hand over a Super Bowl-caliber roster to the Bucs’ next head coach, who will be Todd Bowles.
“No. No. Tom was very in favor of what I’m doing. I had conflicts with every player I coached because I cussed them all out, including him. Great relationship off the field.”
Arians knows the questions about timing+Brady coming out of retirement would come.
We asked him.

Tom Brady’s decision to unretire helped cement the decision for Arians because the coach wanted to hand over a Super Bowl-caliber team to Todd Bowles.

Of course, not everyone is buying it.
It’s not a coincidence

Perhaps there is more going on, or maybe Arians really wanted to step away and move into a front office role, while handing the team over to Bowles.
