The NFL Draft is coming next month, and it’s an unusual one for the Washington Commanders because they’re picking later in the first round. It’s also because the team currently has only five picks in the 2025 Draft. The Commanders already gave up their third and fifth-round picks. The Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel trade also shook things up in the draft. Here is a mock draft of who general manager Adam Peters might settle on this year.
Washington Commanders Five-Round Mock Draft
Round 1, Pick 29: Donovan Ezeiruaku, Boston College DE
After the departures of Jonathan Allen and Dante Fowler Jr., the Commanders are in dire need of another edge rusher. It’s possible that Washington could take Donovan Ezeiruaku with their first-round pick. Standing at 6’2, 247 pounds, Ezeiruaku is one of the most productive pass rushers in this class. With his long arms and athleticism, he can greet blockers with a great punch in the chest.
Last season at Boston College, Ezeiruaku won the Ted Hendricks Award, given to the nation’s top defensive end. He ranked second in the FBS with 16.5 sacks, and third with 20.5 TFLs. Ezeiruaku is sure to be selected in the first round and could contribute to Dan Quinn’s defense.
Round 2, Pick 61: TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State RB
Brian Robinson Jr. and Austin Ekeler are expected to lead the Commanders’ backfield once again. Jeremy McNichols was also re-signed, as all three players have one year left on their contracts. As a result, Washington will need another running back to help Kliff Kingsbury’s offense. Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson could be the one. He’s a powerful runner who’s hard to bring down and has exceptionable vision. His pass-catching abilities also help when playing with a quarterback like Jayden Daniels.
In 2021 and 2024, Henderson led the Big Ten in yards per carry. He was also a three-time All-Big Ten selection (First-Team in 2023, Second-Team in 2021, Third-Team in 2024). In his senior season, Henderson rushed for 1,016 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also ended his Ohio State career as a national champion when the Buckeyes beat Notre Dame for the 2024-25 title.
Round 4, Pick 128: Jalen Travis, Iowa State OT
The Commanders got a major upgrade at left tackle with the trade for Laremy Tunsil. There is some speculation that Brandon Coleman will move to right tackle, with Andrew Wylie moving inside to right guard. Nevertheless, Washington should still seek an offensive lineman in the middle of the draft. Maybe Iowa State’s Jalen Travis could be the one to bolster the Commanders’ offensive line.
Standing at 6’8, 339 pounds, Travis is tall with proportional mass and length. He has big hands and grip strength while accelerating through contact. Travis also has a high personal character and is involved with the community. If drafted by Washington, he would likely be a right tackle and provide just enough protection for Daniels and the backfield.
Round 6, Pick 205: Kaden Prather, Maryland WR
The Commanders have already made moves at wide receiver during free agency. The biggest one was the acquisition of Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers. Washington also just signed Michael Gallup, who abruptly retired last summer. The best bet for when/if Washington drafts a receiver is in the later rounds.
Maryland’s Kaden Prather could go late in the draft. Prather is a tall, outside receiver who isn’t explosive but builds and carries speed to create windows. It also helps that he’s a local guy and wouldn’t have to move far.
Round 7, Pick 245: Jaylin Smith, USC CB
Washington has already bolstered Joe Whitt Jr.’s defense enough this offseason. The Commanders already have Marshon Lattimore and Mike Sainrstil in the secondary. The team also just signed cornerback Jonathan Jones to their roster. Benjamin St-Juste and Emmanuel Forbes Jr. are no longer Commanders, as the franchise will just look for another development project capable of progressing quickly.
USC’s Jaylin Smith could be Washington’s final pick in this draft. Smith was a three-year starter with experience at nickel, safety, and outside corner spots. That type of versatility could benefit the Commanders’ defense if he sticks around long enough.
