CRod’s back, and Austin Seibert goes to IR
The Washington Commanders announced several roster moves today as they continues to deal with injuries before their bye next week. Both of Washington’s top RBs were injured during Washington’s loss to the Cowboys on Sunday. Brian Robinson Jr had his ankle awkwardly rolled up on, and he left the game twice. He said it wasn’t a high-ankle sprain, but he’s still dealing with the injury. Austin Ekeler is in the concussion protocol after a nasty hit on a kick return at the end of the game. If both of them can’t go for Sunday’s home game against the Tennessee Titans, that leaves Jeremy McNichols as the lone healthy back on the 53-man roster.
Commanders RB Brian Robinson on @JunksRadio just now on @1067thefan:
“I’m dealing with an ankle sprain right now to some ligaments that was rolled up.”
Said it’s not a high ankle sprain and nothing going on with the bone. Has been surprised how much it’s progressed since SUN.

Chris Rodriguez Jr. had already been elevated from the practice squad three times this season, the limit for elevations for a player. He was released last week to open up a spot for DE Javontae Jean-Baptiste who was returning from injured reserve. The second-year RB wasn’t claimed on waivers, and now returns to possibly have a bigger role on Sunday.
Kicker Austin Seibert returned to the lineup on Sunday, after missing the last two games with a right hip injury. He had his worst day as a pro, missing two XPs and a field goal. His last missed extra point, killed the Commanders momentum after Jayden Daniels hit Terry McLaurin for a pass that turned into an 84-yard touchdown that should have tied the game up with 33 seconds to go.
Seibert has now been placed on injured reserve, sidelining him for at least the next four games. Washington still has Zane Gonzalez on the practice squad and they chose not to sign him to the 53-man roster this week. They elevated him from twice to fill in for Seibert, which gives them on more elevation before the bye week. Gonzalez, or another kicker, will have to be signed when the Commanders return from their break to visit the Saints. In two games, Zane Gonzalez was 3 for 3 on field goals, and 4 for 4 on extra points.
Washington also announced two moves on their practice squad. The Commanders worked out DT Viliami Fehoko Jr last week, and have signed him today. He was a 4th-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys last year, so Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr are very familiar with the former San Jose State defensive lineman. Guard Marquis Hayes was released in the corresponding move.
